GSA Reports 82% of Government Cloud Implementations Went Through FedRAMP

Molly Bernhart Walker has reported in a FierceGovernmentIT article that the General Service Administration says 82 percent of cloud implementations in the federal government is now covered by a security authorization through the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). GSA launched an initiative to create a baseline of where and how the cloud is being used across government, Walker reported Aug. 6. These new figures come from the “FedRAMP Forward six-month status report” GSA recently published. Rapid Response: Three Contractors Win DHS Award for Secure Mobile Authentication R&D

Greg Otto reported in FedScoop that the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate has selected three contractors to research authentication systems that secure phones without taking away from the user experience. Recognizing that mobile devices are critical tools in both the public and private sectors, DHS wants to ensure that these devices are secure. The awards total nearly $5 million. The awards fall under the five-year Broad Agency Announcement of the directorate’s cybersecurity division. In January 2014, SolarWinds commissioned Market Connections, Inc. to conduct a survey to learn about the primary cybersecurity threats facing federal agencies. That study revealed that whether through human error or malicious intent, people are a highly unpredictable and significantly damaging threat to an agency’s cybersecurity defense.
